Natasha’s Junk Awards for California Politicians in 2008
This is now 2009 - so it is time to give out the “Junk Awards” for Califonia politicians in 2008. These awards are given to elected officials who did nothing with their time except create junk - or did nothing. It is not an award list that you want to be on. Here are my winners:
Gov. Arnold Schwaezenegger: He wins for doing nothing. He knew the budget passed in September was junk, and yet he did nothing. He had the authority to line item veto things, and he didn’t use it to create a balanced budget - he didn’t use it at all. Instead he let that piece of junk go into effect, and now we need a budget solution to solve $48 billion dollar hole over the next 18 months - and that number is growing.
Democratic Legislators: They are getting the award because they haven’t negotiated and are pushing this “majority budget solution” package - knowing it won’t go into effect because it is going to be sued - to solve problems that cannot get solved. Also they get this award for being rules by the California Teacher’s Association to the point that they don’t do anything to fix educaiton (and because they hate charter schools which are proving to be successful with less money). Additionally, they get this award for passing lame legislation that makes California the “Nanny State” instead of solving big problems like water, education and budgets.
Republican Legislators: They are awarded this because they never came out with a plan until it was too late. They let the Dems run over them, saying they didn’t have a plan to solve the budget without raising taxes. Also, they stuck to their “no new taxes” before they even had a plan - making them seem ridiculous. Additionally, they won’t negotiate and hold firm on all their demands. They know they won’t get them all - so why not negotiate so you get some?!
Well, that about sums up the political leadership of California. And they all got Junked.
I hope next year I can give out some good awards and not just the Junk Awards
