Illegal Immigration Is Illegal
This is what I don’t understand. Everyone wants everyone else to obey the laws of the country/state/city where they live. Otherwise, there is no guarantee that your car will be in your garage when you go to work in the morning. A lawless society wouldn’t work - so people obey laws.
All the laws that is except for immigration laws.
It is amusing to me how many people see illegal immigrants as victims. I understand, they may not be in the best situations. But they are illegals. They are breaking the law by being here. If they really wanted to be here, with all the benefits of being a citizen - then wait in line until your turn comes. Coming here illegally isn’t the answer.
Providing amnesty isn’t going to do anything more than encourage illegal immigration. Providing amnesty doesn’t do anything except make everyone who is following the law by waiting in line mad. So women come over the border, have their baby here - who is now a US citizen - and then stay here illegally. Then when their child is 18, they push for the child to be their sponsor. And all of a sudden you are rewarding people for illegal acts.
I understand the claim that illegals play a great role in our economy. That is because food and hotels are cheaper because the people owning the production means can pay illegals less, and not pay employment taxes on them.
This will change if all illegals are made legal. Then they won’t be illegal, and the cost of goods is going to go up. So the same people claiming that they play an important role in the economy (other than costing money without paying taxes) will be facing an economic problem if all those illegals turn legal.
Also - why are we rewarding criminal behavior? We would never consider allowing someone who was charged with breaking and entering a house to be simply absolved of criminal liablity. But these illegal immigrants, who broke and entered our country (illegally) are going to be absolved of all criminal liability and treated like citizens.
I am not opposed to a path for citizenship - open to ALL immigrants. I think such a path would be great. Prove that you love America enough to serve here, and we will provide you citizenship. How about doing a stint in the military, and in exchange we will provide you American citizenship. Or working in the America JobCore program? All of those are ways to show you are willing to serve in order to be a citizen. But they need to be open to all immigrants, not just those who were raised here illegally.
Letting illegals become citizens if they graduate from college is a bogus idea. What does that prove? That the person knows a college degree is needed to get a good job? That the illegal took away a seat in college from a legal citizen? That’s not serving your country or following the laws, and shouldn’t lead to a path towards citizenship.
I am not saying our immigration laws are perfect. But they are the law - and so they should be followed. To claim otherwise is to be as lawless as the people who break the law.
