A Basic Conservative Value - Traditional Families
I sure wish people would understand the benefit of traditional families, and stop making it seem that traditional families are bad, and traditional values are bad. Just because mass media and some sections of society don’t like them, doesn’t qualify traditional families, and traditional values, as bad.
What do I mean by a traditional family? I mean a family with a mother and a father bound together in marriage. They might (or might not) have children, a house, and some pets. But the mother and father are married. The kids are born into wedlock.
What do I mean by traditional values? I mean believing marriage is between a man and a woman. I mean that families should stay together. I mean that sex can wait until marriage, and that modesty is a good thing. I mean that having a job counts, and being a productive member of society who graduated from high school (at least) is wonderful.
The thing is, these values are slowly leaving society. Rome didn’t fall because of outside influences. Rome, one of the greatest societies known to man, fell because they started losing the cohesive basis of their society. Morality, ethics, and purpose were looked upon as bad things. When Rome’s moral, ethical, and economic status started to fall - so did Rome.
So when America’s moral, ethical, and economic status start to fall, where do you think we are going to end up?
I think that we need a return to traditional values. I am not saying this has to be the case in every situation. But there are segments of society where being a bad student is a good thing, and where mothers not knowing who the father of their child is, is a common situation. What is so wrong with portraying someone as modest? Do you really need to open a tv series that is aimed at teenagers with a scence of oral sex (like 90210 did)? What is wrong with putting some clothes on and thinking that parts of your body should be covered? What is wrong with thinking that marriage is for the creation of children?
I think that all these values need to be emphasized in today’s society. Instead, they are all coming down around us. Hollywood and some small but vocal groups in California are doing a good job at portraying other values. So don’t we, as conservatives, need to stand up and portray ours?
